This private initiative was aiming at completing the existing infrastructures of the school “Les Pilifs” (primary school for autistic children) with a secondary school located in the same area.
The new building fully respects its local environment thanks to volumes aligned with those of neighbouring houses and to its location along party wall No 74 which leaves a wide visual opening on green spaces. The construction has also been conceived in such a way as to save energy: rain waters recovery, reinforced isolation, sun-shields and green roof.
More particularly, the building has been designed following an accurate analysis of the pupils physical and visual perceptions. To allow the students to find their way as smoothly as possible in the building, circulation has been organized following North-South and East-West axes. Physical activities take place at intermediate basement level. Entrance hall, offices are located at the ground floor as well as the teachers room. Dining hall is also at intermediate level and gives access to the garden. Class rooms and individual spaces needing a quite atmosphere are located at upper floors. Shapes have varying types, spaces have been hierarchised in order to stimulate in the children a better apprehension and discovery of the space.
